The design of the BURIEN PRESS was conceived with the notion that this South Seattle café would visually connect to light and sky throughout the space. This tenant improvement involved drastically re-configuring a compartmentalized office into a bright, airy establishment.

Central to the plan was a new courtyard that was built up in the back to the finished floor of the existing interior space and walled off to conceal the alleyway beyond. Immediately upon entry off the street, you are connected to a lush exterior space that is glazed from floor to ceiling.

Both the courtyard and the interior ceiling were clad in wood and carved out in strategic ways to allow plants and sunlight to filter into the space.
