View From N-W- Corner 3.JPG

Working with a narrow lot in an urban neighborhood, this unique and modern dwelling organizes common areas in an open plan linked about a central outdoor space on the main level while creating a private, spa-like retreat that constitutes the master bedroom on the upper level, accessed via an indoor/outdoor atrium complete with a soaking tub among a fountain flanked by lush botanical life.

Board-form concrete along the lower floor and site walls expresses the permanence of the structure, and relates to the historic infrastructure of the district, while the upper forms push and pull on a steel framework to form interior and exterior moments clad in glass and wood. Floor-to-ceiling glass opens onto screened outdoor spaces, both expanding the living areas to the outdoors and framing landmark views, while still making for a private retreat among the urban bustle.
